Each year, Kompaan releases a new edition of Foreign Legion: a collection of some of our biggest and most distinctive beers. Barrel-aged stouts, rich dark beers and special recipes, all built around craftsmanship, character and time.
Over the years, Foreign Legion has become one of Kompaan’s most recognisable annual releases, with award-winning beers, sought-after barrel editions and a loyal following among serious craft beer drinkers.
For 2026, we’re giving the series a new visual direction.
This year is inspired by art, illustration and risograph printing: bold colours, rough textures, handmade details and deliberately imperfect layers.
Because beer is an artform too.
Once again, every beer is inspired by a real person from Kompaan. From the bar and kitchen to sales, events and the brewery, each one gets its own beer, alter ego and place in the Foreign Legion world.

Inspired by Quint, Head Bar at Thuishaven and a natural-born smooth operator. Bloedbroeder, our legendary Imperial Stout with ruby port, spent time in Buffalo Trace bourbon barrels, layering dark chocolate and roasted malt with dark fruit, vanilla, toffee and oak. Dangerously smooth. Very Quint.
Inspired by Luis, head cook at Binnenhaven and somehow still the calmest guy in the kitchen when everything goes sideways. Barrel Beuker spent time in Jamaican rum barrels, turning its massive dark-malt backbone toward chocolate, molasses, ripe fruit, vanilla, oak and deep rum warmth. Stay calm. Feed the inferno.
Inspired by Marianne: Events Manager, metalhead, motorbike lover and usually the one keeping the whole show together. This massive Caramel Fudge Imperial Stout was aged in Buffalo Trace bourbon barrels, piling vanilla, oak and bourbon warmth onto thick caramel, dark chocolate and fudge-like sweetness. Not background music. This is the headliner.
Inspired by Sander from Sales: sharp, dry and not interested in wasting anyone’s time. A monster Imperial Stout aged in Amarone barrels, where dark caramel and chocolate meet dried cherry, plum, raisin, wine-soaked oak and a touch of tannin. Big beer. Short conversation. Deal done.
Inspired by Koen, who went from young QC intern to a fully fledged member of the brewing team while quietly taking every ginger and tiny-moustache joke we could throw at him. His 11.8% Quadrupel brings dark caramel, maple syrup, toasted malt and dried fruit together with cinnamon and warm Belgian spice. Apprenticeship over. The moustache is still under review.
Inspired by Yassin, our chef and a man with a serious love for Texas barbecue, smoke and fire. A huge Imperial Stout aged in Anker whisky barrels, bringing dark chocolate, charred malt and caramel together with vanilla, toasted oak and warming whisky. Yassin brings the fire. The Sultan finishes the job.
